Harvest Dance at Peace in Medicine

On Saturday, Nov. 7, Peace in Medicine will present its 11th Annual Harvest Dance and Celebration, a benefit for the Sebastopol Community Center and for Americans for Safe Access (ASA). Events will begin at 11 a.m. at the Sebastopol Community Center, located at 390 Morris St. in Sebastopol. There will be music, and informational presentations as well as a KidsZone for the kids. Senior Center honors vets on Nov. 9

The Sebastopol Senior Center has set Nov. 9 aside to honor and remember the military men and women who have served America in any war and during peacetime. A musical prelude of patriotic music will open the event with Sonoma County pianist Joan Scheffer. Historian, Professor Lawrence Prudhomme will lead the program as Master of Ceremonies. Speakers include Frank Senello, WWII, U.S. Navy and Pearl Harbor Survivor; Bud Simmons, U.S. Air Force, Korean War; James Cutrie, U.S. Marine Corps, Vietnam. Also speaking is retired Colonel Pete Peterka, who served in WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Secret War (which he will talk about on Nov. 9). A reception will follow the presentations with homemade refreshments and live music from the 1940s and 1950s. All Veterans, family of Veterans and the general public are invited. Please bring memorabilia, photos and any stories to share. This is a free event. All Veterans who attend will be honored. The Sebastopol Area Senior Center is located a 167 North High Street, next to the library. For information, call 829-2440.


Art Workshop at Sebastopol Vets building on Nov. 19

Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County cordially invites all artists to participate in its semi-annual life drawing meeting. Well-known artist Sterling Hoffman has once again agreed to pose. Life drawing is a good exercise in drawing “what you see, not what you think.” The meeting and light lunch on Thursday, Nov. 19, begins at noon, the drawing session at about 1:15 p.m. Visitors are always welcome. Bring your drawing/painting supplies and an easel, if you don’t wish to work on tables. AWS meets the third Thursday of each month, at the Sebastopol Veterans Building at 282 S. Feed a Senior from Nov. 13 to 26

For just $3.50, local shoppers can “Feed a Senior” within the community through the Sonoma County’s Council on Aging Meals on Wheels Program. While shopping at locally owned, independent grocery stores throughout Sonoma County from Nov. 13 to 26, those interested in participating in the program can inform the checker who will accept donations. Participating grocery stores include: Big John’s Market, Molsberry Market, Oliver’s Markets, Pacific Markets, Skyhawk Village Market, and Petaluma Market.

Guerneville Library events include Poetry Slam Nov. 20

There will be a book discussion group featuring “The Secret River” by Kate Grenville, at the Guerneville Regional Library on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m. The Poetry Slam will take place Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. See the Sonoma County Library website sonomalibrary.org for Poetry Slam rules. The Guerneville Library is located at 14107 Armstrong Woods Rd., Guerneville.


Eat BBQ, support Analy Boosters

The first Tuesday of every month will be Analy Night at BBQ Smokehouse & Catering located right next to Sebastopol Cinemas, a short walk from the Analy athletic fields. Just let the staff know that you’re there to support Analy High School and the restaurant will donate 10 percent of the bill to the school via the Analy High School Boosters Club. Anyone can donate. Call ahead to have food ready upon arrival at 707-575-3277.
