The Fishing Report: Internet fishing

I was speaking with my good friend Rick Powers, long-time captain of the New Sea Angler and Surf Scooter out of Bodega Harbor, the other day, and we were discussing how fishing has changed in the last 20 years. He lamented how tough a sport captain’s job had become because in his words, “No one wants to just go fishing and take their chances any more. They look on the Internet and if it isn’t lights out, they don’t go,” he said. “In the old days, regular folks would just sign up for every Tuesday of the season and you could bank on those regulars to show up. It was a great time, it really was.”
