Eye on the birdie

Healdsburg High School badminton coach Stan Bischof will host a series of badminton gyms on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from June 11 through Aug. 8 this summer, in an effort to grow local interest in the sport.

Local kids will have a chance to try a new sport this summer when Healdsburg High School coach Stan Bischof hosts a series of open gym sessions from 9 a.m. until noon at Smith Robinson Gymnasium.

The informal sessions, open to all Healdsburg youth, will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 11 through Aug. 8. There is no charge to play and equipment will be provided.

“The objective is, as with other sports, to expose the sport of badminton to younger kids,” Bischof said. “If some of them end up on the Healdsburg High School team, great, but the real goal is to build the badminton community locally.”
