The Healdsburg High School volleyball team continued its preparation for the upcoming North Bay League season with an Aug. 30 match with Windsor, falling to the visiting Jaguars in straight sets; 25-14, 25-16, 25-19.
Although the loss dropped the Greyhounds to 0-3 on the young season, HHS coach Kim Collins is pleased with her team’s development.
“The girls played a good match, they’re hustling and working hard,” she said. “Our biggest challenge is starting off strong and keeping that momentum. By the time we figure it all out we’re already in the third game and that’s two games too late.”
Statistical leaders for the Hounds were Kim Rodgers (4 kills, 2 blocks), Lilia Lopez (7 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks), Nenna Carr (5 kills, 4 digs, 4 aces), Nancy Juarez (6 digs) and Diana Guzman (6 assists, 2 digs, 3 aces).
Healdsburg will continue preseason action on Sept. 4 (after press time) with a home match against Santa Rosa (5 p.m.), followed by a Thursday, Sept. 6 date with visiting Cardinal Newman.
“We purposely have a hard pre-season line-up to help get us ready for the (league) season,” Collins noted. “These hard teams are keeping us on our toes and helping us become a better team.”
