Knights of Columbus and members of St Peters Church in Cloverdale are part of a vast network of volunteers who help the Redwood Empire Food Bank distribute over 15 million pounds of food annually.

The mission of the food bank is to end hunger in Sonoma County and to provide food for every child, every day, and for every senior in need. Last year over 175,000 meals were served to children after school and during the summer months. For the seniors on fixed incomes, there is a special nutritious food box just for seniors. As one senior explained, “All I really need is to know there will be something to eat in the cupboard when I open the door.” Over 82,000 needy people in the county were provided with food last year, with over 50 percent being farm fresh produce.

Donations of food and money are always welcome at the food bank. Also the food bank would welcome new volunteers with warehouse help, cook and kitchen help, and office helpers. Call Helen Meyers at 523-7900 for information.
